Founded in Cape Town in 1975, David Miller Security was one of South Africa’s most respected suppliers of professional security hardware, locks, access control systems, and door ironmongery. The business was established by David Miller as a specialist trade supplier of locks and locksmith supplies, serving the building, hardware, joinery, shopfitting, and security industries. 

The Lockshop brand was later introduced for the over-the-counter operation, supplying contractors, architects, facilities managers, industry professionals, and the public with a comprehensive range of:

• Master key systems

• Panic and emergency exit hardware
• Access control systems
• Door handles and architectural ironmongery

Over nearly five decades, Lockshop built a reputation for supplying reliable, high-quality security hardware solutions backed by expert technical advice. Alongside its retail and trade supply division, David Miller Security undertook select installations of high-performance locks, panic hardware, emergency egress systems, door closers, and electronic access control solutions. Every installation was completed to rigorous professional standards, with particular expertise in high-security facilities, commercial buildings, and compliance-driven emergency exit requirements.

David Miller was widely recognised in the professional security industry. A long-standing Member of ASIS International, the world’s largest organisation for security professionals, he served for more than 30 years on the Committee of ASIS International (Chapter 203: Cape Town), including on the Institute’s Board of Governors. He also contributed over 35 years of service to the Locksmiths Association of South Africa.

With over 50 years of experience in security hardware specification, master key planning, emergency escape hardware compliance, and complex locking systems, David was frequently consulted to troubleshoot challenging installations and to write specifications for high-security and access-controlled environments.
Following David’s passing in 2024, his wife Beth continued to run the business until her retirement at the end of 2025.
